Somayeh Mehri (31) and her daughter Rana Afghanipour (5) used to live in Bam, in the south of Iran. The two of them are victims of an acid attack by Somayeh's husband and Rana's father, Amir.
When Somayeh decided to divorce her husband because she had frequently been beaten and locked up, she didn't take his threats seriously. Then, one night in June 2011, while she slept next to her two children, her husband Amir attacked them with acid. As a result, Somayeh's and Rana's faces, hands, and eyes were severely burned. Somayeh was left blinded in both eyes, and Rana lost one of her eyes. Her other daughter escaped without injuries.
Unfortunately, Somayeh died a few days ago from a medical complication that was caused by the acid attack years earlier, leaving her daughter alone.
As soon as we learned about this news, we contacted Rana’s family and offered them our assistance to provide all necessary financial help they need for Rana’s additional medical treatment and her future education.
We will provide you with additional details in our next newsletter, but meanwhile if you would like to donate to Rana’s account, please do so generously through this link. Please make sure the category "Medical assistance" is chosen and that in the comments box it says, "Rana's Fund"
